Process Engineer – Continuous Manufacturing – Fort Erie

Siltech Corporation, a Canadian owned global provider of organo-functional silicone specialties, is looking to hire immediately a Process Engineer – Continuous Manufacturing to join our Engineering team at our new Fort Erie Plant.

Reporting to the Corporate Engineering Manager, this role will be focused on the optimization and safety of continuous manufacturing processes at the facility.

Main Duties

Oversees safe introduction as well as scale up of products and processes:

  • Leads plant trials for any new and unique processes assigned
  • Initiates new standard operating procedures (SOPs) for any project activity and updates existing as required SOPs (including operator training as required)
  • Delivers Operator and Employee Process Safety Training
  • Designs process and equipment for all projects assigned
  • Approves of all continuous manufacturing procedures
  • Responsible for product scale-up including process safety evaluations
  • Leads the Management of Change Process for applicable projects.

Improves Plant Manufacturing, Plant Process Safety and Environmental Practices

  • Leads process hazard assessments as defined by Siltech PHA schedule in co-operation with other departments (Lab and Operations)
  • Performs environmental aspect impact studies according to schedule
  • Leads Emergency Response Dry Runs as assigned
  • Identifies where process safety and environmental compliance need to be improved and implements solutions
  • Improves production rates, wash times, product quality, etc. and formulates clear plan to resolve issues in a systematic manner in alignment with corporate objectives
  • Implements new safety systems through the use of logic, interlocks, alarms etc.
  • Performs process and incident investigations.

Capital Engineering Support

  • Designs processes, specifies equipment, and develops costing for assigned projects
  • Safely installs equipment according to schedule and budget
  • Performs Pre-start Up Safety Review and starts up equipment as assigned
  • As a part of project closure, the position identifies critical part inventories.

Knowledge required

  1. Chemical Engineer degree required; P.Eng or eligible with additional experience
  2. 3+ years chemical or related industry experience. Continuous Manufacturing Plant Experience preferred.
  3. Experience with process equipment/piping and utility piping installations
  4. Detailed knowledge of distillation, mass and heat transfer, fluid mechanics, etc.
  5. Commissioning of Plant Equipment
  6. Capable of interpreting technical drawings. PFDs, P&IDs, layouts, GAs, etc.
  7. Excellent communication skills.
  8. Experience with AutoCAD.
