Chemist – Mississauga

Siltech Corporation, a Canadian owned global provider of organo-functional silicone specialties, is looking to hire immediately a Silicones Chemist to join our R&D team at our Mississauga Plant.

Reporting to the Senior Chemist, the Chemist assists in research projects pertaining to silicone organic/inorganic chemistry, including the development of new products as per lab project requests and the supervision of scale up batches. This is a permanent, full-time (non-hybrid), day shift position.

The Chemist is responsible for:

  • Writing lab project reports.
  • Keeping the lab area in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Performing calculations for charges and batches.
  • Performing chemical reactions at the discretion of the senior chemist.
  • Performing scale up work, including supervised use of pilot facilities for larger scale R&D.
  • Completing precheck work, monitoring reactions and completing analysis on in-process and finished batches.
  • Assisting the Senior Chemist with Manufacturing Procedures.
  • Providing technical assistance to plant if required.
  • Searching both patent and scientific literature with the ability to summarize in both a clear and concise fashion.
  • Participating in Sales calls to provide technical support for new or existing products and applications.
  • Performing necessary analysis using applicable analytical equipment. (IR, GPC, GC etc.)
  • Managing and disposing of associated laboratory chemicals
  • May be asked to attend conferences and internal R&D and Sales meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Chemistry specializing in organic and/or silicone synthetic chemistry required.
  • Silicone resin experience is an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a chemical environment, ideally in a manufacturing facility is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of QC procedures and analytical instrumentation. (GC, NMR, GPC, FT-IR, KF Water, Brookfield Viscometers, pH meters)
  • Proficient in wet chemistry analysis techniques.
  • Excellent communication, attention to detail and written report writing skills is required.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent housekeeping skills.
  • The ability to lift up to 50 lbs
